The recovery tool athletes actually ask for by name
Normatec is a pneumatic compression system, sleeves that fit over your legs, hips, or arms and inflate in a controlled, patterned sequence. It was developed originally for medical circulation management and became a staple in professional locker rooms because it works and because it feels genuinely good.
You sit back, the sleeves cycle, and twenty to thirty minutes later your legs feel noticeably lighter.
How the sequence works
The system inflates in segments, starting at the foot and moving upward, holding a wave of pressure that pushes fluid toward the center of the body. That directional pattern mirrors the way your lymphatic system naturally clears metabolic waste, the accumulated byproducts of hard training that make legs feel heavy and sore.
Clearing that out while simultaneously increasing blood flow to a specific area means fresh oxygen and nutrients arrive faster. The result is loosened muscles, naturally reduced pain, and accelerated muscle recovery.
Who benefits
Endurance and team-sport athletes in heavy training blocks, anyone in a tournament weekend with games stacked back to back, patients recovering from lower extremity injury where swelling is limiting progress, and people who simply stand or travel for long hours and deal with heavy, swollen legs.
Many patients add a Normatec session onto the end of a regular visit. You are already here, and it turns a treatment appointment into a recovery appointment.
Benefits of normatec compression recovery

- Increases blood flow to a targeted area
- Reduces post-exercise soreness and heaviness
- Speeds recovery between training sessions and games
- Helps manage swelling in the lower extremities
- Relaxing, entirely passive, zero effort required
Conditions we use this for
Knee Pain
The knee is a hinge stuck between two joints that rotate, so it usually hurts because of what the hip and foot are doing.
Hip Pain
Stiff, weak hips do not stay a hip problem for long. They hand their workload to the low back and the knees.
Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Pain
That stabbing pain on your first steps out of bed is the most recognizable symptom in musculoskeletal medicine, and one of the most frustrating to wait out.
Normatec Compression Recovery: common questions
How long is a Normatec session?
Twenty to thirty minutes is standard. You can read, answer email, or close your eyes. Nothing is required of you.
When should I use it relative to training?
After. Post-training and post-competition is where compression does its best work. Some athletes also use a shorter session before an event to increase circulation as part of a warm-up.
Is there anyone who should avoid compression therapy?
Yes. If you have a known deep vein thrombosis, an active infection or open wound in the area, severe peripheral artery disease, or congestive heart failure, compression is not appropriate. We screen for all of this beforehand.
